Court Reporters Certification Requirements

Court reporters in Idaho have to meet the state’s certification requirements. The Idaho Certified Shorthand Reporters looks after the certification requirements for court reporters in the state. The board not only provides its own certification process but also reciprocally recognizes certificates that are obtained via the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).

Regardless of the type of certification, every aspiring court reporter in the state will have to meet minimum requirements and obtain approval from the state board.

Court Reporters Certifications in Idaho

This is the point where you decide the kind of certification you want to pursue. If you opt for the NCRA certification, the Idaho board recognizes the following certifications:

  • Registered Diplomate Reporter (RDR)
  • Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR)
  • Registered Professional Reporter (RPR)
  • Registered Merit Reporter (RMR)

Certified Shorthand Reporters Board Exam

This exam is administered by the Idaho Certified Shorthand Reporters and takes place twice every year. The exam has the following two parts:

  • A knowledge part.
  • A skills test.

Once you obtain any of these certifications, you will fill out an application form and send it to the board to get official approval to start working as an Idaho court reporter.
